Israele ha cominciato a pompare gas naturale dai suoi giacimenti in mare verso l’Egitto dando così applicazione allo storico accordo di cooperazione tra i due paesi firmato nei mesi scorsi. Lo annuncia un raro comunicato congiunto dei ministeri dell’energia egiziano e israeliano che hanno definito l’evento “un importante sviluppo utile agli interessi di entrambi i paesi”.
Il gas – ed è la prima volta che Israele diventa fornitore di energia – arriva dal grande giacimento Leviathan che si trova a largo delle coste israeliane accanto all’altro deposito di Tamar. Lo scorso mese il ministro dell’energia Yuval Steinitz ha firmato i permessi definendo l’intera operazione “una storica pietra miliare per lo Stato di Israele”.
